Foundational Reading Skills
Within Dreamscape, reading comprehension is broken down into multiple sub-skills for the purpose of strategic instruction.
Gameplay first offers questions that require literal responses. These are questions that require students to demonstrate basic recall skills. The answers to these questions are usually found directly within the text.

- Sequencing Events
- Identifying Characters
- Previewing Text
Advanced Reading Skills
Advanced reading skills require students to infer beyond what is directly written in the text.
In Dreamscape, students will become attuned to writing techniques used by authors in order to identify nuances and determine deeper meanings held within texts.
- Author’s Purpose
- Figurative Language
If students struggle with a particular skill while reading passages and answering reading comprehension questions, our platform offers opportunities to practice those skills in isolation.
Students can encounter independent questions. With these questions, the cognitive demands of the reading passages are removed, so students can fully focus on practicing skills.
