New Game: Dreamseeker Drift

We hit the ground running this school year with the launch of Dreamseeker Drift, our action-packed endless runner game where players sprint, dodge obstacles, and collect rewards while answering questions powered by the Shoelace Learning Engine.

Introducing: Decodables

In light of the increasing focus on phonics-based ELA instruction in many schools, we introduced a collection of Decodables Assignments that methodically introduce basic phonics patterns, before gradually advancing to more intricate ones. This progressive approach empowers students to steadily enhance their phonics proficiency.

New Assignment Library

Over the past 12 months our assignment library has grown by over 600 new assignments. In order to support this growth, it was time for an overhaul to make it easier to browse, search and filter our catalogue so you can quickly hone in on the assigments that best fit your needs.

Meet Our Friend, Dr. Kris

Dr. Kris Alexander, game developer, globally-ranked player, TED Talk host, professor of video games and proud parent of Shoelace gamers, joined us for a deep dive into the transformative power of gaming and learning. This illuminating series demystifies gamified learning, provides parents with guidance on at-home gaming, and paints an inspiring vision of the future of classroom instruction.

Learning Engine 3.1 & a New Placement Test

We work hard to balance boosting reading confidence, expanding player knowledge breadth and gently pushing them to try content at the edges of their ability. In January we launched an updated Placement Test focusing on shorter passages, allowing players to finish it faster. This is especially valuable for Shoelace Premium users who can reassign the Placement Test at any time to see how a player has progressed.

Improved Dreamscape Player Experience

Our Game Team is always improving our games with a focus on creating better outcomes for learners, easy implementation for educators, and providing the most amazing games on the market. February was a month where we did just that!

New Player & Class Leaderboards

New Player & Class leaderboards launched, encouraging Shoelace users around the world to unleash their competitive and collaborative spirit to earn a top spot, individually or as a class! Player rack up points through in-game activities like winning challenges and, most importantly, with correct answer streaks.

Introducing: Perspectives Assignments

Our Education team unveiled Perspectives Assignments: a collection of 80+ assignments inspired by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. This thoughtfully-crafted collection provides grade-appropriate exposure to real world issues, encouraging learners to build upon their reading comprehension skills, while also developing critical thinking and innovation skills.

New Feature: My Coach

What if every student had a dedicated reading coach focused solely on identifying their struggles and providing immediate, targeted support? Our newest feature, My Coach, does just that! It utilizes the learning data generated by players as they engage with Shoelace games and intervenes automatically to implement assignments precisely when needed to address specific challenges.
